**Attention Class of 2021:  Required Senior Checkout Process:

In order to pick up your cap and gown, graduate, and receive your diploma, you must fulfill all obligations to SME.

Go to the Class of 2021 Advisory class in Canvas and find the SENIOR GRADUATION CHECKOUT module for complete instructions and deadlines on all obligations and steps.

  • Students will be able to confirm the completion status of each obligation in Canvas.
  • On Wed., May 19th seniors who have completed all items will receive an email with an electronic “ticket” allowing them to pick up their cap and gown, beginning that afternoon.
  • We encourage students to begin working on these items NOW, as waiting until the last minute could delay getting your cap and gown.

Obligations are:

  • Two senior surveys (one in Skyward and one on the SMSD website - do these NOW)
  • All fines and obligations paid (Bookkeeper - do this NOW)
  • Library materials returned (Librarian - do this NOW)
  • MacBook returned (beginning May 18th)
  • Pass all courses required for credit completion and graduation

Questions?  Contact information for each item is included in the Canvas module.  Thanks and congratulations, Seniors!

**After Graduation Info:  Help PTSA Continue the After Graduation Tradition… Please see the attached letter regarding this year’s After Grad Party. Per tradition, all SME families are requested to help honor our seniors.  2021 After Grad Letter.pdf

For the past 10 years, the SME PTA and the parents at Shawnee Mission East have put on a safe, drug and alcohol-free graduation party at SME following the graduation ceremony. It is intended to be a well-deserved celebration of our seniors’ achievements and acknowledgement of the years of hard work they put into completing their high school education.  The After Grad party has a 99% attendance level by the Senior Class and the event includes dinner, games, various entertainment and raffle items. The planning of this party has not been easy during this pandemic, but we have the green light to host the After Grad Party for the night of the Graduation on May 24th and need your help to create a wonderful experience for our graduating seniors.

To ensure that the After Grad Party is a success, as per tradition, we are relying heavily on the generosity of our local community as well as families at Shawnee Mission East.  Suggested levels are below, but any donations would be greatly appreciated.

$20.00 Freshman Families                                          $40.00 Junior Families

$30.00 Sophomore Families                                       $50.00 Senior Families

Donations can be made through Venmo @SMEPTSA or by a check payable to SME PTSA sent to Casey Cooley-Brock at 8503 Ensley Place, Leawood, Kansas 66206.  Be sure to reference “After Grad Party” in your notes.

We are also looking for items to place in our Senior Raffle and would appreciate any donation. Gift certificates, gift cards, individual gifts or gift baskets are needed. All raffle donations may be sent and/or dropped off to: Tracy Tetrick:  5810 Windsor Drive, Fairway Kansas 66205.  Contact the After Grad Party Co-Chairs with questions:   Casey Cooley-Brock -  816.210.3957 or Tracy Tetrick - 913.948.3677
