**2021 Mail-In Bond Referendum in the SMSD
Our Shawnee Mission community is looking toward the future. The Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to place a $264.2 million bond proposal on a mail ballot this January. Click here to learn more about the SMSD mail-in bond referendum being held in January 2021

This bond proposal is designed to provide lasting facilities improvements across the district, and to strengthen student learning. View a video overview about the proposed bond here.

The goal is that the Shawnee Mission School District can continue to be ranked among the finest school districts in the nation, employing exceptional educators who work in state-of-the-art facilities, where learners achieve their full potential.

Those ballots are due to the Johnson County Election Office by noon on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

** Second Semester Schedules
Second semester schedules will be available to view in Skyward on Wed., Jan. 13.

  • Due to changes in the master schedule for both In-Person and Remote learners, as well strict class size limits in each part of the alpha for hybrid attendance, many students will have a different teacher in one or more yearlong classes.
  • Teachers will collaborate to make the transition between semesters a smooth one for all students.
  • For the same reasons listed above, it may be very difficult to make adjustments to schedules, except for errors or to ensure a student has a class they need to graduate.
  • If you believe there is an error in your schedule, or have a question, please contact your counselor via email as soon as possible. Counselor assignments may be found on our Contacts page.
  • We continue to appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult year!

**Spring eSchool registration opened December 1st. Courses begin Jan. 19th. For more information, see the SME Counseling website.

**East for Excellence (E4E) is back! We are thrilled to be able to offer our students free tutoring twice a week again, starting next week. New this year: we will offer a remote tutoring option, Webex Wednesday! From 7-8pm. Students can access tutors by visiting the E4E Website. We will also run a traditional in-person tutoring session on Thursdays from 3-4pmWe are not able to provide transportation this year; and so, students wanting to participate in the in-person tutoring will need to secure their own rides to/from SME and, of course, must complete the COVID-19 screening questions before participating and adhere to all mitigation practices while on property (masks required, distance will be maintained). If you have questions about E4E, please direct them to Dr. Leonard (susanleonard@smsd.org; 913-993-6613).
