Required Senior Checkout Process -- Please read this!
In order to pick up your cap and gown, graduate, and receive your diploma, you must fulfill all obligations to SME. Go to the Class of 2021 Advisory class in Canvas and find the SENIOR GRADUATION CHECKOUT module for complete instructions and deadlines on all obligations and steps.
- Students will be able to confirm the completion status of each obligation in Canvas.
- On Wed., May 19th seniors who have completed all items will receive an email with an electronic “ticket” allowing them to pick up their cap and gown, beginning that afternoon.
- We encourage students to begin working on these items NOW, as waiting until the last minute could delay getting your cap and gown.
- Two senior surveys (one in Skyward and one on the SMSD website - do these NOW)
- All fines and obligations paid (Bookkeeper - do this NOW)
- Library materials returned (Librarian - do this NOW)
- MacBook returned (beginning May 18th)
- Pass all courses required for credit completion and graduation
Since this process will be posted in Canvas, parents will be able to monitor their senior’s progress toward completion. (Parents, if you don't yet have a parent account, see the district webpage here for instructions.)
Questions? Contact information for each item is included in the Canvas module.
Six tickets will be distributed to each graduating senior on May 19th. Students must have all fees paid (see below) and have completed their senior checkout items (see above).
Senior Parent Reminder About Fees Owed

After Graduation Party - Every year our PTSA holds a fun (& safe) graduation party for our seniors immediately following the graduation ceremony and it is happening this year! The shindig is held at school and is a great way for our kids to celebrate with their classmates.
This event relies on support from the PTSA and parents of East students from every grade. Knowing that each child will be enjoying this party some day, we look at it as a 'pay it forward' type of situation.
Please see the latest information here!
The donation request varies by grade...
for Freshmen, it is $20 per family
for Sophomores, it is $30 per family
for Juniors, it is $40 per family
for Seniors, it is $50 per family
If you have multiple students attending East, please donate based on total, not just one child (for example, a family with a freshman and a senior would donate $70)
Previously ordered announcements and notecards can be picked up in the SME office between 7 a.m. and 3:30pm. Caps and gowns will be distributed to students after checkout on the Senior's Last Day, May 19th.
